Why Gold Slipped Toward $4,325
Gold gave back a session, not the week. USA TODAY (22 September 2026, 12:47 p.m. ET) put spot at $4,326.62 per troy ounce as of 12:05 p.m. ET, down 0.88% ($38.37) from the prior close of $4,364.99. Versus a week earlier ($4,285.38) that is still up 0.96%. The Metals-API homepage ticker for USDXAU printed 4324.60 the same day — same ballpark, not a second close. Do not mix that ISO field with the widget’s LBMA PM fix (USDLBXAUPM printed 4324.25).
The tape is a tug of war. Kitco AM (22 September) had spot near $4,336.50 (down 0.15%) as a firmer dollar and hawkish Fed talk offset cheaper oil and a 10-year yield near 4.93%. The Fed’s 16 September hike — 25 bp to 3.75%–4.00%, first since July 2023 — is the cap. Hormuz diplomacy (Iran could reopen the strait within seven days if Washington eases pressure) pushed Brent below $100 and WTI below $95, which is mildly gold-friendly, but not enough to outrun the dollar.

Desks that persist the ounce, not a screenshot, call GET /api/latest with access_key, base=USD, symbols=XAU. Read rates.USDXAU (USD per ounce). rates.XAU is ounces per 1 USD — invert only if you skip the USD prefix. Copper Monthly starts at $19.99/mo (2,500 calls). No free trial.

Official dated print for 22 September 2026 (the day this post went live). The dated path does not return USDXAU; invert rates.XAU. That ounce (≈ 4361.70) is the API’s 22 Sep close, not the USA TODAY 12:05 p.m. ET print above.

1 / 0.00022926840452117003 ≈ 4361.70. GET /api/latest replaces the date and, on latest, also returns rates.USDXAU. This is not copper (XCU lives on Commodities-API) and not an LBMA city series.
